In 1969, as a response to the Canadian and American counterparts, a partnership of four Quebec Holcans merged their activities in order to protect costs and establish services as a large company. One of these was Antonin Tymill, who would become Progo's first CEO. Provigo was founded in 1969 under the name of Consort and Provence, which was switched to Progo 1970.

Previously, Progo was the name of the company that used three banners for its food store: "Praveen", "Provabaeck" and "Provoboop". It was not until 1979 that Providence's name would become a real store banner instead of the prahmanian chain. In 1983, his sister named Provenbe named AXAP. It was changed to JoVE in the 1970s for Provowpop.
